Abstract:
»The Silmarillion’s Aredhel is difficult to neatly categorize as either sexually liberated or sexually assaulted, victim or architect of her own demise. By applying how medieval English authors theorized rape, motherhood, and female freedom of movement, I argue that Aredhel is a model medieval woman—even one of the ‘good’ ones.«
